Allergens and the Arboretum

I'm interested in researching the various allergens lurking around the Arboretum- especially those that are not necessarily native to this habitat. How do these allergens effect students and teachers? I'm also interested in researching possible herbal or botanical allergy remedies that may be growing in the Arboretum.

I've thought about this idea before too. It was a joke a few friends and I had freshmen year that no matter what your ethnic heritage there was a plant in the Arboretum that would be from your "homeland" and mess you up.

You should think about doing some polling of people in the Arboretum in regards to allergies and location. You could try to find out which collection makes people sneeze the most!

it sounds like a cool case study. maybe you chart out the different types of pollen and the location where they are found.

I think that starting off with something more technical/concrete like allergens will be a really interesting foundation for creative pieces that might stem from this. I'm a sucker for science, and it'll be cool to see what interesting contrasts might present themselves when looking at scientific data vs the human stories or possible metaphors that allergies represent.
