The Mighty Ducks
My arboretum idea is to do a piece on the ducks of the arboretum. What are the different kinds, where do they come from, do they make the arboretum their home or do they just merely pass through? I want to find out who/what feeds the ducks and if there are any interesting duck-related stories. Basically, anything duck related. I remember the first time I heard about the arboretum, people were like "oh yea thats where the ducks are, you can feed them." I wonder what makes this tie between the two so common.

You should get in contact with the girl researching eccentric people of the arboretum. Some of the people that feed the ducks are interesting looking. The weird thing is that the ducks recognized a man on a red bike that was there to feed them. As soon as the man entered the arboretum the ducks rushed to him and surrounded him. Hope you get to talk to this man.
I agree, the ducks ARE an integral part of the Arboretum, they are hard to miss...they basically own the place. I agree with vic as far as taking a more personal and character based approach to your research. Anyone can do a piece on ducks, but not many have the access to or the curiosity about the Arboretum ducks that we do.
I think this is a cool idea. I've often wondered about these ducks myself and I'm sure others have as well since they are an integral part of the arboretum. I've also seen the man Vic is talking about. I was thinking of interviewing him for my topic...you should talk to him too. It would definately help you gain insight on why people feed the ducks.
That makes me think of another topic. What do people associate the arboretum with? Like you said, you talked to someone that thought ducks right when you said arboretum. I wonder what other people think.
I think the ducks are not only present in the arboretum, they seem to be a huge attractor of people to the arboretum. Pretty funny to watch.
Sounds similar to my research idea. We should collaborate! I'm sure there are a lot of ideas that we could share and help to strengthen research on this topic.
