What does the arboretum mean to each runner that chooses to run around the Arboretum? Why do they run there? Why not run somewhere else? What do they think of before they get there? On their way there? As they start running? Do they zone out or remain in the present? What do they feel that place does for them? What does it feel like? I have a feeling it is more interesting than we might be led to believe.
These are all questions I would like to ask. it interests me and I feel it could be shot in a variety of interesting ways.

At any given time of the day if you go to the arboretum it's pretty hard not to notice the massive number of people exercising. It's definitely one of the key elements in the arboretum as a space, so I think your idea is a really good one. Like you said, there's a lot of different directions you could take it. Also, you and Susana Aguilar (see a couple posts below yours) might have some common ground, since you're looking at people who would probably be recurring characters in the arboretum story.
This is a great topic that should definitely be greenlit in class today. Runners are a major presence along the arboretum's path. During my 3 half-hours of observation I had many of the same thoughts as you: "What are these people thinking about as they run through the arboretum? How much does the setting affect/enhance their experience?" And there were surprisingly few iPods; most runners did without.
I like this idea. Its one of those topics that would stand out to me and make for a good read.
